LILLY KING

LILLY KING is a band led by Annelie Koning and was formed in September 2015 by her. Annelie writes raw compositions based on her Dutch-language poetical lyrics. While improvising with the band, the character of the songs get their form.

Their songs combine the concreteness of pop with the freedom of improvised music. This way, they create a graceful mixture of contrasting colours. Binding through alienation is the core of their work. LILLY KING creates a sound world that will linger in your mind. Refreshing, challenging and compelling.

In March 2018 the released there first EP called SCHEMER.

They are now working on a new program for the Grachtenfestival 2018 called HEMELVAL for which they invited Ab Baars on tenor saxophone and Kristján Martinsson on piano to join. In this program they mix there songs with the poetry of Gerband Bredero (1585 – 1618)

Biography Annelie Koning

Annelie Koning is a Dutch experimental vocalist and composer. In June 2017 she graduated from the ArtEZ conservatory in Arnhem (direction Jazz & Pop).
In her work Annelie Koning combines composed parts with improvisation in which she continuously explores the possibilities of her voice.
She studied jazz singing with Jolande Geven, Ineke van Doorn en Simin Tander, classical singing with Elena Vink and she had lessons in improvisation with WIlbert de Joode and Wolter Wierbos.
In 2015 she formed the band LILLY KING in which she combines Dutch-language compositions with improvisation. The songs have a poetic character and organic structure which will carry the listener away from the here and now.
Besides this Annelie developed herself as a solo voice-improviser and with this she performs on location.
Annelie played with (amongst other): Michiel Braam, Jaap Blonk, Wilbert de Joode , Wolter Wierbos, Ab Baars , Onno Govaert, Jasper Stadhouders, Kaja Draksler and Etienne Nillesen.
In various settings she played in (amongst others): het Bimhuis, De Nationale Opera, Deventer schouwburg, Festival De Oversteek, Code Rood, Stella by Starlight, Zaal 100 and Musis Sacrum.
